In the four series of works that comprise the “Wherefore Art” (Where for Art)” collection, the artist reveals her own process of contemplation and imagination while conveying distinct ideological “landscapes” -- specifically, the dichotomies of freedom and regulation, art and consumerism, commodities and desire, and the quintessentials of the psyche. The artist delves into her relationship with these “landscapes,” searching within this for her own “locus;” that is, her positionality and belonging. This creative journey is witness to ways in which she negotiates a new relationship with art, and is borne of a contemplative metamorphosis and praxis. Pivoting from Taipei to “wherefore,” and from “wherefore” to “heretofore,” the works synthesize intellectual connotation and emotional experiences as they write of the existential condition and the visage of the contextual milieu.
